Past, Present & Future

The Handcrafters & Artisans Alliance (HAA) was established in 1999 (formerly the Oahu Products Council) to provide a voice for Hawaii’s producers of arts & handcrafts in matters that affect our businesses. In 1998, the City & County of Honolulu faced legal problems concerning the use of Kapiolani Park for craft fairs. This resulted in the revocation of all craft fair permits for that location and caused financial losses for members of our industry who exhibited at that park. The Alliance was formed to present a unified voice to address this issue. As a result of our efforts, Kapiolani is once again open for craft fairs and festivals which sell Hawaii-made crafts.

HAA organizes monthly craft / artfests and an annual Pacific Islands Arts Festival. We work to expand marketing opportunities for our members, addressing both the local and tourist markets. We have formed liaisons with the Honolulu Festival, Pan Pacific Festival and the Aloha Festivals to provide additional markets for our membership. We represent our membership in workshops and presentations offered by governmental agencies which provide information and financing that can aid our individual members. HAA is affiliated with the Hawaii Chamber of Commerce and hopes to become more involved with the Hawaii Visitors and Convention Bureau to increase our marketing opportunities. We also hope to offer workshops for our membership to aid in the prosperity of their businesses and further their growth. We invite you to join us and take an active role in our industry’s future!
